It's the season of harvest! Our field of sweet potatoes is nearly ready to come out of the ground, and we need your support with harvesting them, as well as additional tasks. These jobs require a lot of hands, so this is a good opportunity for a group or individuals to help out and earn SSL hours!
Red Wiggler is a 501(c)3 certified organic farm that employs individuals with developmental disabilities to provide nourishing food for the community. Our vision is to create fertile ground to nourish a healthy and inclusive community. We have run a successful CSA in Montgomery County MD since 1996 and are the longest continuously running CSA in the county. We create meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities. Through our 3-part CSA Program, we provide 50% of all the produce we grow to low-income households.
Volunteers will join our staff in small teams to dig sweet potatoes and carry them to our wagons, and will assist with arranging the sweet potatoes to cure in our greenhouse. Volunteers will also potentially assist with other farm tasks, including field clearing, weeding, and sorting/processing. Expect to learn a lot, get dirty, and work hard!
COVID information: Red Wiggler does not require mask wearing outdoors at the moment but we are still limiting our indoor time and maintaining social distancing. Our COVID response is constantly evolving, so check in with us directly if you have concerns or questions.
