High school students interested in filmmaking on and off camera are invited to assist and do interviews on location at Dance Exchange, in Takoma Park, MD. Action Youth Media is filming a dance performance and doing local interviews of the talent and local residents and students will be assisting the crew. Volunteers have the opportunity to help behind the camera or on camera.
This is an opportunity to help a community event and learn filmmaking on the job from working professionals.
This is a Student Service Learning (SSL) opportunity for MCPS students. Signed SSL forms will be available on a date following the event. (not on location)
Action Youth Media Requirements:
- Event/Class is FREE but registration is required (EventBrite)
- Parents must submit a signed permission form for student to participate at least once per school year.
In our film classes, students have choices and their voices matter.
Action Youth Media (Youth Media) is a non-profit that focuses on teaching filmmaking to teens and young adults.
We are a filmmaking education program and working film studio, completely free to all.
Through after-school and summer classes, Action Youth Media promotes filmmaking to middle and high school students, as a life-giving creative activity and a path to rewarding and sustainable careers.
Mission statement: To provide inclusive spaces where young people find their unique voices, gain self-confidence, and learn the media skills they need to be thriving community members.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
