The 2023 Fall After School program is a one-hour baseball/softball training program that introduces the game of baseball/softball to 30 boys/girls from five Title 1 schools in Montgomery County. We will be working with a different school each day of the week for seven weeks.

The majority of the kids that will participate in this program do not have the means to participate in organized youth baseball/softball programs; and therefore have likely never picked up a bat or ball. This program is designed to give these kids an opportunity to see whether they have the ability, or interest, in the game. Angels Baseball was founded on the belief that all kids should get an opportunity to find success; to find out whether they have a passion for the game without having to worry about whether they can afford to play. They deserve the opportunity to receive the proper level of instruction that allows them to truly determine whether they have the ability to play the game. And Angels Baseball wants to, and is in a position to provide that opportunity.
Volunteers would be working alongside the baseball coach (coaches) to help organize kids and take them through the various drills. Kids will be asked to perform various drills throughout the hour session, from hitting off a tee to fielding and throwing a ball. We do not need volunteers to have a background in baseball to be able to perform these tasks. The coaches will explain the drill(s) in a way that is clear and what the volunteers should be focused on while each kid takes a turn at the drill. Volunteers do not need to know how to throw or be skilled enough to catch a ball (we will be using nets). Volunteers will be given very specific instructions on what to watch for, keeping things simple for volunteers. In some cases, volunteers may simply be asked to make sure kids stay in order and are ready for their turn as they wait in line. We will keep the sessions moving as quickly as possible, trying to limit the amount of downtime for the kids. All we ask is that volunteers come with a willingness to teach and a desire to help the kids. We also recommend that volunteers wear comfortable clothing and clothing you do not mind possibly getting dirty.
