Reporting to the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Program Manager, the 50+ Volunteer Network Advisor is a highly experienced volunteer within the Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC) Ambassador Team. Through personal consultations, the Advisor guides volunteers aged 50+ seeking purposeful opportunities through the process of researching and signing up for volunteer opportunities.
Duties include:
- Work one-on-one with prospective volunteers (applicants) via in-person meetings to discuss and assess their skills, interests, and availability
- Become familiar with available opportunities at nonprofits and government agencies
- Use online database (MontgomeryServes.org) to search, filter, and find appropriate volunteer opportunities with applicants, teaching them how to use these features
- Follow-up with applicants to assess match success and provide further support as needed
- As part of the Ambassador Team, support MCVC staff with outreach efforts to potential volunteers and organizations through tabling and event staffing
- Log volunteer hours monthly with the MCVC
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Enthusiasm and interest in volunteerism and community development
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of clients and staff
- Ability to independently use computer to search database, update calendar availability, and send emails
- Minimum 50 years of age; if volunteer is 55 or older, they should be (or plan to become) a registered member of the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program
- Multilingual skills that can serve a diverse County population a plus
- Coaching/counseling/nonprofit experience or interest a plus
Commitment:
- In-person volunteer opportunity at the MCVC in Germantown, MD (note: options for transfer to satellite locations throughout Montgomery County may become available)
- 6 hours per week (2 consistent 3-hour shifts); schedule is flexible for travel and other commitments
- Up to 2 meetings per month
