The MCCPTA Summer Area Advocacy Meetings (SAAM) Wrap up this week, and our Area Vice Presidents (AVPs) & Cluster Coordinators (CCs) need your help to make each of them a success. Please consider helping in your cluster/area and in another cluster/area. If we all help each other, we will have all the help we need and that will allow the host AVPs & CCs to fully participate in the discussions. Students are highly encouraged to attend and will earn SSL hours for participating in the conversations. MCPS parents/caregivers are welcomed in all discussions and volunteer roles; students can earn SSL hours for assisting where indicated.
On July 22nd the Central Area PTAs (Churchill, Richard Montgomery, Poolesville, Rockville, Wootton clusters) invite you to a share your priorities for the 2025-2026 school year and to talk with elected & appointed officials about how we can partner to address those priorities. Please join us!
What we need:
- Set up: SSL
- Greeters and navigators (best for those familiar with the location) SSL
- Facilitators for each small group discussion - subject matter expertise helpful, but not required, just need to keep the conversations flowing, redirect back to the topic where necessary, and prevent monopolization of the conversation. SSL (possible)
- Committee Chairs & Subject Matter Experts (SME): those with subject matter expertise and/or experience, would be very helpful in sharing real world experiences which may differ from policies or guidelines thought to be in place. SSL (possible)
- The small group discussion topics of the July 22nd meeting include the following, but other topics are also welcome:
- Boundary Study and Secondary Programs Analysis
- Capital Projects and Facilities Maintenance
- Curriculum, Differentiated Instruction, and Grading
- Code of Conduct, Safety, and Well-Being
- The small group discussion topics of the July 22nd meeting include the following, but other topics are also welcome:
- Note takers - preferably two per room/topic to ensure that all topics and main points are captured for the Advocacy Priorities. You do not need to be a scribe! Primary notes will be put on large note pads for participants to see (legible handwriting is helpful) and then transferred to a Google doc. These can be done in a Google doc simultaneously if there are two note takers. Having two notetakers also provides a good cross check to ensure everyone's concerns are captured. SSL
- Interpreters/translators to ensure everyone is included and all voices are heard. Students pursuing the bi-literacy certificate and fluent bi/multilingual adults are welcome. SSL
- Clean up. SSL
