Who We Are

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1968. Older citizens of Rockville may know us by our original name, Rockville FISH. Our members represent an interfaith group of congregations and individuals.

What Volunteers Do

We provide emergency food and financial assistance to needy residents of Rockville. We deliver a 3-5 day supply of food to people's homes and offer limited financial help with rent, utilities, prescriptions, and other needs. People can self-refer for food assistance. Financial assistance is currently based on referral from a social worker.

*We do not have short hourly shifts.*

We need volunteers to retrieve phone messages and return calls to clients - "officers of the day" or ODs, working from home - and Food Drivers, who pick up food from our food pantry and deliver it to clients' home. ODs only need a phone. Food drivers need a car and driver's license as well as a phone.

Both ODs and Driversare scheduled for a day and are responsible for taking care of the calls and requests on that day, though they don't have to be available the whole day. Drivers can volunteer alone or with a family member or friend (makes packing and carrying bags faster).

We are a small organization and our volunteers are people who get involved long-term, and work independently on a schedule that works for them.

We cannot accommodate children (under 18) volunteering without a parent or guardian. Children volunteering with their parents (helping to bag food for deliveries) are welcome. We are not on the MCPS preapproved list for SSL hours, but if the school's SSL coordinator approves the activity, we are happy to sign the form!
