Our volunteers make recordings of current publications such as newspapers, newsletters, and magazines. The recordings are broadcast over closed-circuit radio or accessed by our listeners with their telephones using our Dial-In service. If you enjoy reading aloud, this is a fun and valuable service. The listeners. who have visual impairments or other disabilities which make it difficult for them to effectively read print, often tell us that the Washington Ear has enabled them to feel more involved in the world around them. We ask that prospective volunteers take a short audition. The auditions are given in our studios in Silver Spring. After passing the audition, there will be an orientation that takes about 2 hours. We ask that volunteers give about 2 hours a week. All volunteers must be 18 or older.
