Description

Small Things Matter's Crafting for Charity Program helps those in need with handmade items.

We are looking for volunteers to help us make non-religious greeting cards with kind messages to share with the elderly in our community throughout the summer.  Elderly people are being encouraged to stay home for their safety and as a result have even less human interaction than before.  A handmade card is a small way that we can bridge the distance between us and them and help them with their feelings of loneliness.  We would love to have individuals and groups helping us.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by making cards until schools return to normal status. Small Things Matter will review your cards and deliver them to isolated older adults.

Card instructions: Please make your cards on thick paper such as cardstock or if you are using copy paper please fold it in 2 twice to make a more sturdy card. Decorate the front of the card and write a cheery message inside.  You can also share a poem or inspirational quote. Please only include your first name in the cards and do not reveal any personal information such as your email address or home address in your cards. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. Once we have reviewed your cards, we will award SSL hours according to the following equivalency: 10 cards = 1 hour of service.

Please keep a log of your work including your name, date each was made, and the number of cards and take a few photos of your cards for our records.

Completed cards can be dropped off to us or mailed to Small Things Matter, 14516 Bauer Drive, Rockville, MD 20853.  Please leave them on our carport. Once we receive your cards, log, and a few photos we will send your SSL form via email.  Please do not knock on our door.  Just email us prior to drop off and we will be on the lookout for your items.  We are serving over 700 families and need to enforce a no-contact drop off.
